Wireless Backup Camera – The QuickVu™ Story: Changing Lives in 5 Minutes

QuickVu Wireless Backup Camera on License Plate

Helping people drive safely has captured our full attention. We first set out to develop an easier way to install a wireless backup camera. Then we learned of the high rate of backing accidents — children and the elderly are at most risk. Then we knew we had a product that would be very helpful to a large number of drivers across the nation.

Backing Accidents Are a Serious Problem

Drivers spend very little time driving in reverse, but countless accidents occur during that time. Rear vision is poor in vehicles both large and small. Thousands of children suffer as victims of backing accidents each year with about 100 deaths annually. (One of our founders witnessed such an accident as a teenager and has never forgotten the gruesome scene.) Accidents involving children, the elderly, and other people are tragic. Backing into property can be very costly. Expensive car repairs and property replacement can really add up. Commonly damaged property includes mailboxes, fire hydrants, garage doors, shopping carts, and luxury cars. Insurance policies may cover the immediate damages, but we suffer with increased premiums or canceled policies.

If It’s Too Hard to Install, We Don’t Bother to Get a Backup Camera

Millions of vehicles do not have adequate rear visibility, yet many drivers hesitate to add a backup camera for fear of violating vehicle warranties or otherwise damaging their vehicles. How many of us feel confident taking a drill to our car to run wires? Or enjoy the prospect of splicing into our car’s electrical harness? And how many of us want to pay an installer hundreds of dollars just to install a backup camera system?

QuickVu™ wireless backup cameras are easily installed in about 5 minutes without making any modifications to your vehicle. These premium rear view camera systems offer a proven solution to millions of drivers who want the safety and conveniences of a backup camera without the hassle and expense of complicated or difficult installation.

We Are Always Improving Our Wireless Backup Camera Systems

At Trail Ridge Technologies, we focus on improving the QuickVu™, especially by using digital signals in all of our QuickVu™ systems. When testing the signal in open air, direct line of sight conditions, we stopped testing at about half a mile with great performance. (We might have gone much further, but why?) Of course, reception on an actual vehicle differs from reception in open air, but QuickVu™ serves owners of cars, SUVs, trucks, campers, trailers, RVs, and more.

Digital Video

Our first wireless backup camera system did not use digital video, so the reception was not always perfect.  Like an old style TV, the screen might be fuzzy or snowy.  So we chose to use digital signals for perfect, clear views.

Integrated Video and Receiver

Our first systems also included a receiver separate from the screen, and you had to mount both on your dash.  This worked well, but it mounting two units on the dash was not so attractive and not so simple.  So we chose to combine the two units into one.  Now you only have to install the screen on the dash — easy and clean.

Larger Screen

Our 4.3″ screen works great in most cars and trucks, but some owners would prefer a larger screen.  So we added a 7″ screen to our product list.    And this screen moves the control buttons to the front of the unit for easier access.

Second Camera

And we added support for a second camera for drivers who want to see in front of the bumper when they are parking, or for drivers who want to see behind their trailer.

A Real Boon to Trailer Owners

While providing increased safety, we soon learned that a QuickVu™ Wireless Backup Camera can really help with your trailer. When the camera is mounted over the trailer hitch ball, backing up to the trailer hitch becomes much easier, and you won’t have to rely on your spouse or partner giving awkward hand signals and shouting unclear instructions. Many trailer owners prefer the 7″ color monitor in their pickups.

Adding a second camera on the back of the trailer helps even more. Now you can guide the trailer into position while backing with a clear vision of what’s behind you. And some drivers use the rear view camera to know when it is safe to change lanes!

A Wireless Backup Camera Makes A Great Gift — For Yourself or Someone You Love

While many of our customers are seeking solutions to their own driving problems, many are also thinking of loved ones. Parents of teens are buying backup cameras for their new drivers. New parents want extra protection for their toddlers. Children of aging parents buy QuickVu™ for Mom and Dad (or Grandma and Grandpa). These acts of loving care impress us and impel us to continue provide great products and service.
