Replacing Batteries

Hopefully you have enjoyed many months of backing visibility from your QuickVu Digital Wireless Backup Camera. Under normal use QuickVu Digital batteries should last up to one year. When the batteries finally begin to fail you will see the video start to cut out early. If the normal video on time duration is 30 seconds, for example, you will see the video suddenly stop at 25 seconds instead of staying on the full 30 seconds.

1. Loosen the screws and remove the back cover
The batteries and electronics are well protected against the elements inside a weatherproof/waterproof chamber. Six screws help maintain a tight seal. In order to replace the batteries, these screws must be loosened until they are no longer engaged with the front portion of the camera enclosure.

When the screws are all disengaged, gently pull the back cover away from the front cover and set it aside. You may keep all of the screws in the back cover screw bosses (holes that hold the screws) for easier re-attachment.

2. Remove and discard the old batteries
To remove the old batteries, use a finger (or fingernail) to pull at the top or bottom side of the battery. The battery clips exert a fair amount of pressure against the battery contacts in order to maintain good connection through mechanical shock and vibration during use. Once one end of a battery has been pulled away from the battery clip the battery will easily come away from its chamber. Remove and properly discard both batteries.

3. Obtain two Energizer® Ultimate Lithium™ AA batteries to replace the old ones
Obtain two ‘AA’ batteries to replace the old ones. For best operation we recommend Energizer® Ultimate Lithium™ AA batteries. These hold up well under extreme temperature conditions and last significantly longer than other AA batteries.

In order to insert new batteries, pay attention to the orientation of the positive terminal. A special protective circuit keeps the camera from being damaged if the batteries are put in backwards, but the camera will still not work.

4. Insert new batteries
In order to insert a new battery, you will insert first the negative side of the battery. With the negative terminal touching the battery contact, press the positive terminal of the battery toward the negative end so that the negative battery terminal is compressed. Now slide the positive end of the battery over until it is in contact with its terminal and slip it underneath that terminal and push it all the way back against the battery chamber wall. If you have trouble getting the battery’s positive terminal past the edge of the contact, you may need to pull the negative end of the battery out slightly until only the edge of the battery is on the negative contact. This allows more room on the positive side to slip under the battery contact. In extreme cases you may want to ‘shoe horn’ the battery past the terminal using a thin flat object such as a butter knife.

5. Test for proper operation
Once both batteries are in place with positive terminal pointing in the direction shown in the picture, you will want to do a quick test to make sure the batteries have been properly installed. Without having replaced the back cover, turn on the monitor and make sure the monitor displays video as transmitted from the camera. If there is no video, check the polarity of the batteries to make sure they were installed correctly.

6. Reattach the back cover and tighten screws
With the batteries installed and the camera working properly, you are ready to reattach the back cover. Make sure the large gasket is in place and that each screw still has a small rubber washer as was the case when it left the factory. For the camera to continue to be waterproof, it is critical that the gasket and washers be in their proper positions. The back cover should slide on with a tight fit but not require extreme force to come in contact with the front chamber. If you are having difficulty getting the back cover to slide into position it is likely that either the large rubber gasket has slipped off its track or that one of the camera’s internal wires is between the screw bosses of the back cover and front chamber. Correct this condition and slide the back cover into position.

Now tighten each of the six screws. Do not overtighten , as the back cover may crack the the screw bosses may be damaged under extreme torque. Snug each of the screws so that it compresses slightly into the rubber washer. The head of each screw should be flush with or slightly below the outer surface of the back cover.

If all went well you your QuickVu Digital Wireless Backup Camera should be ready to provide many months of rear visibility.
